I am running for McHenry County Sheriff because I believe the people who live here deserve better. I've lived in McHenry County for 14 years. My children were born here and this is my home and my family's home. I believe I can contribute to making our County a stronger, vibrant community that is safe for us all. As Sheriff, I will use my 23 years of law enforcement experience to raise the level of performance of our Sheriff's Office and make it one that works for all of us, not just for the few.
I believe that public service is an honor and that government employees work for the communities they serve, not for their own benefit.
I am a 23-year veteran crimefighter at the Cook County Sheriff's Office. I've handled some of the toughest assignments there are in the second largest Sheriff's Office in the United States. For example, when I served as a Fugitive Unit Investigator, tracking down and reapprehending accused felons who had fled from electronic monitoring, 90 percent of the time I and my partners were on the streets in high-crime areas of the City of Chicago and nearby suburbs.
I began my career as a correctional officer in the largest single-site jail in the nation and moved up over the years to Electronic Monitoring Investigator; EM Supervisor; Fugitive Investigator; Internal Affairs Investigator; Sergeant; Administrator; and currently serve as a Deputy Director.
Throughout my career, I've noticed that the most effective officers consistently adhered to three key principles: honor, integrity and professionalism. I have always strived to make these principles my own and will continue to do so as McHenry County Sheriff.
I can assure you that I will be a "hands-on, present-for-duty" Sheriff. You can't lead from the rear and you can't lead by phone and it's a disservice to your officers and the citizens alike to make that your practice.
I also know that public service is not a means of private enrichment or a power trip, however much those notions seem to be prevalent in the State of Illinois. We need to return to the tradition of honest, faithful service from our public servants. And nowhere is that more important than in the area of law enforcement. The public confers profound powers on its police officers and deputies. An elected law enforcement official must deploy those powers in the most judicious manner possible. As Sheriff, I will strive to uphold the highest standards in this critical area.
